Abstract
Attention to teacher professional development has increased rapidly in recent years.
Teachers’ professional development has an essential effect on school effectiveness
and student achievement. The teacher is the key figure when it comes to influencing
student performance and therefore teacher professional development programmes
are in the centre of attention. This article precedes professional development, the
underlying theories and models that may be appropriate to use in this process.
